On the brow of a hill, The Great Hall of The King’s Head was built in the heart of medieval Aylesbury, for William Wandesford, in 1455.
A London wool merchant, he most likely used his newly-built Hall for conducting his business, when down from London. Exposed timbers, wattle and daub walls and heraldic glass. All would have been made by hand by local craftsmen, from local materials.
We, The Chiltern Brewery, have been running The King’s Head since 30 th January 2005. That was an exciting day, because The King’s Head gave us the opportunity to take what we had been brewing in Terrick since 1980, to customers in our County Town.
Our approach to the Great Hall, is just the same as we have been doing for over 40 years at the Brewery, and no different from the craftsmen of the 1400s. Find good quality, local produce and, with our hands and a bit of nouse, make it into something special. From our beers brewed with Bucks grown barley, to our dishes prepared from local ingredients in our kitchens, we are delighted to serve the highest quality beer and food, in the Hall’s unmatched setting.
The Great Hall is a historic room with a sense of occasion, and a terrific experience.
